The laboratory is involved in the digital transformation and modeling of traditional electrical systems integrated with their digital component. The heart of the laboratory's activities is the realization of Digital Twins of electrical systems using mixed techniques of Hardware in The Loop simulation in order to validate the behavior of electrical architectures integrated with digital systems of supervision, automation and data collection. In particular, the activities of the laboratory are related to the implementation of 4.0 technologies for electrical systems.
The main activities performed in the laboratory concern:
- Digital twins based on RealTime - Hardware in The loop (RT/HIL) simulations of SmartGrids and MicroGrids with the objective to create hardware/software frameworks useful to understand complex electrical phenomena and to perform tests aimed at validating integrations and communication protocols typical of smartgrids.
- Digital twins based on data collected (data-driven) of electric vehicles with the aim of characterizing the behavior of the vehicle and its integration with the driver, for the realization of blackbox models based on machine learning for the evaluation of performance and predictions of operation.
- Digital twins based on RealTime Hardware in The loop (RT/HIL) simulations - for the study of vehicle architectures for automotive, industrial and agricultural applications aimed at studying the iteration between different components and the impact on supervision and integration strategies with automotive data exchange networks (V2G, V2I, X2V).
- Digital twins of electromechanical components and automation systems
- Model-based systems for the generation of control, supervision and diagnostic algorithms for electrical systems.
- Probabilistic and scenario simulation techniques for the validation of electrical systems, for the modeling of loads and renewable generation sources
- Techniques and algorithms for demand response and demand forecasting in electrical systems with integration of vehicles and renewable energy sources
- Modeling and validation of renewable energy systems with attention to marine, solar and wind energy sources.
