Relations with the industrial world play a central role in the Department's strategic plans, both on the research front and on the teaching front.
For more than half a century, the DEIB has been developing its research in the most advanced fields of Automation, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, and Bioengineering, contributing to the growth of the industry in the ICT sector and to the development of new technologies.
The Department's six research areas bring together consolidated competencies, which also contribute, each with the peculiarities of their disciplines, to the methodological, technological, and applicative development of five transversal research areas:
Today, the DEIB boasts numerous patents obtained and a dozen incubated and spin-off companies.
The strategic collaboration with the Cefriel consortium (https://www.cefriel.it/it/) and with the numerous spin-offs specialized in different IT sectors makes the Department one of the most important European centers for research and technological development, capable of supporting companies and public and private institutions in innovation processes.
