The fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0, is profoundly changing the traditional production models of the manufacturing industry through the complete convergence of physical and digital systems, the interconnection and Internet connection of machines, the complex analysis of large amounts of production data, the introduction of new production processes, the collaboration between man and machine, and other technologies.
Thanks to 6 research areas, more than 200 professors and researchers, and about 900 people involved in its activities, the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano is one of the most relevant research, technology transfer, and teaching centers in Europe in the field of Information and Communication Technology, a natural ground for the development of Industry 4.0 technologies.
