Project abstract
MOTUS is a platform of services for the urban mobility management that aims to improve urban commuting and the sustainability of transports.
It is a DEIB project, co-funded by the Ministry of Economic Development within the Industry 2015 program (sustainable mobility - system innovation, Ministerial Decree of 19 March 2008), which proposes concrete solutions to the needs of citizens and tourists in cities with a large number of visitors.
The project leader is Telecom Italia. MOTUS partners form a consortium of twenty-two established companies and national research institutions who worked together for five years.
The MOTUS system is based on a set of services able to detect and measure mobility flows through location providers based on GPS data and GSM / UMTS technologies, local information providers and infrastructure installed in specific locations.
The information produced by the Motus system is useful for public administrations, mobility managers, public transport managers and for the tourist authorities that may use them in the management of critical situations and for the planning of improvements to infrastructures and services, but not only them. Travelling individuals will also benefit from it. Users who download the application will be able to ask MOTUS to plan the best route depending on the current state of local transports to get to a certain point of the city through alerts sent in real-time. The information will be transmitted via smartphone, tablet, but also PC.
