Prof. MENDEZ GARCIA MARTIN OSVALDO
Professore Associato
Martin O. Mendez holds a degree in Electronics Engineering from Tecnológico de Aguascalientes, Mexico (2001) and a M.Sc. in Bioengineering from Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana, Mexico (2003). He received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Italy in 2007. After his doctoral studies, Dr. Mendez was a researcher at the Politecnico di Milano. From 2010 to 2023, he was a full professor at the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí (UASLP), Mexico. From 2023 to 2024, he was a researcher at the University of Bonn, and in 2024 he became a professor at the Politecnico di Milano.
Dr. Mendez's research focuses on the integration and analysis of biomedical signals, data classification and representation, and the interpretation and visualization of information for the development of decision support systems, particularly in the context of sleep phenomena. He has extensive experience with signals from EEG, ECG, EOG, EMG, and respiration related to sleep analysis. His work also extends to emotion recognition in patients with schizophrenia and the development of methods for automatic visual field reconstruction. Dr. Mendez has organized numerous national and international events in the field of biomedical engineering. He has contributed to European projects such as myHeart and HeartCycle, and has managed federal research funds in Mexico. At the UASLP, Dr. Mendez created the undergraduate programs in Biomedical Engineering and Biology and served as coordinator of the undergraduate program in Biomedical Engineering.
He also founded the Scientific Computing Unit at the National Center for Research in Medical Imaging and Instrumentation (CI3M) in San Luis Potosi. Dr. Mendez's contributions to the field of biomedical engineering are characterized by his dedication to both academic and practical applications, advancing the integration of technology to healthcare.
