Marco Sampietro, born in 1957, received his Master Degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1982 at Politecnico di Milano (Italy) and is now full professor of Electronic Circuits and Devices at Politecnico of Milano, Italy.
He has for long studied and developed semiconductor detectors for X-ray spectroscopy applications and for particle physics experiments and low power - low noise circuits for space and scientific applications.
He is currently responsible for the activities in the field of high-sensitivity instrumentation for the nanoscience, with focus on the design of electronic integrated circuits for the measurement of currents, voltages, impedances and noise, aiming to access the electronic properties of nano-bio devices and sensors systems.
After having designed organic photodetectors in the visible range and in the I.R. using donor/acceptor blends, typically of P3HT/PCBM, by means of drop-on-demand InkJet printing techniques, the group, in a collaboration with IIT (Italian Institute of Technology), is now attempting to produce a large area X-ray matrix sensor on a plastic foil to be a bendable, lightweight and unbreakable image sensor for clinical and industrial applications.
Prof. Sampietro is co-author of more than 180 peer-reviewed international publications and holds 4 patents.
He has been the coordinator of many national and international research projects and scientific partner in four large-size European projects within the FP6 (SPOT-NOSED and NOSCE MEMORIAS) and FP7 (EXCELL and BOND).
Vice-Dean of the Electronic Faculty from 2004 to 2006, he is presently the Coordinator of the “Electronics Engineering” courses at Polimi.
