His current research interests are focused on the development of single photon detectors and associated electronics for new microanalytical techniques in biomedical, genetic and diagnostic applications. He developed a photon detection module with high timing resolution, which has been employed in florescence measurements on single molecules at the Department of Chemical Biology, Harvard University. He was involved in several interdisciplinary research projects on molecular biology, quantum cryptography, adaptive optics in astronomy, developing dedicated instrumentation and electronic devices. During his PhD he developed a novel apparatus for DNA analysis that exhibits an unprecedented femtomolar sensitivity. He has published several papers in international refereed journals.
