The Politecnico di Milano team, composed of AIRLab members from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, won second place in the 2024 Leonardo Drone Contest. The annual competition, organised by Leonardo, promotes the development of innovative technologies in the field of multi-agent cooperation.

The team, which competed against six other Italian universities, focused on the creation of heterogeneous autonomous systems capable of working together to carry out complex missions. In particular, the goal of the challenge was the integration of a ground agent with a drone to operate in unknown environments without GNSS, exploiting artificial intelligence algorithms for navigation, localisation and cooperation.

The team consisted of Simone Mentasti, Matteo Molinari, Daniele Migliore and a few selected students from the Robotics course, under the supervision of Prof. Matteo Matteucci and Prof. Francesco Amigoni from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering, and with the support of the Fly-ART laboratory of the Department of Aerospace Science and Technology.
