Francesco Pierri, a junior researcher from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano involved in the NRRP-FAIR (Future Artificial Intelligence Research) partnership, has won the SIGKDD 2023 Outstanding Dissertation Award – Runner Up. The award was presented to him during the 29th ACM SIGKDD CONFERENCE ON KNOWLEDGE DISCOVERY AND DATA MINING, held in Long Beach, California, from August 6 to 10, 2023.
The young researcher was awarded for his doctoral dissertation in Data Analytics and Decision Sciences entitled 'Characterization and Detection of Disinformation Spreading in Online Social Networks', discussed in 2022 at the Politecnico di Milano and presented during the conference.
The KDD Doctoral Dissertation Award is given annually by the Special Interest Group on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (SIGKDD) of the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM) to honour outstanding doctoral students in the field of Data Science, Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery.
