The kick-off meeting of the InTake Care project was held on Tuesday April 11, 2023. The project is funded by the Italian Ministry of Health and the research group of Prof. Enrico Caiani from the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano will be an important part of it.

InTake Care offers a modular and customizable platform for the support and monitoring of medication adherence in chronic patients. In fact, 50% of chronic patients fail to stick to their therapy plan, causing an increase in hospitalizations, morbidity and mortality.

The modularity of the platform, which is based on low-cost, user-friendly technologies already available on the market such as voice assistants, will allow for the integration of both active and passive solutions, according to the lifestyle and needs of each patient. Personalization will be carried out and developed through the creation of detailed user profiles. An additional advantage is represented by machine learning algorithms to enable the use of wearable devices.

The platform will be tested will be tested first in a pilot usability study and then in a randomized clinical trial involving 200 patients followed up for 3 months. The project of three-years duration is led by Dr. Bilo (Istituto Auxologico Italiano IRCCS) and involves, in addition to Prof. Caiani research group, also researchers and psychologists of ICS Maugeri - Camadoli IRCCS.
