Abstract

From October 30th, 2023 to January 12th, 2024, it is possible to visit the X-Cities Exhibition - Extended Cities between virtual and physical scapes in the "Guido Nardi" Exhibition Space of the Politecnico di Milano (Via Ampère, 2 - Milan).

The X-Cities exhibition investigates the advances in research and technologies in the field today in building the identity of “extended cities”, or a new environment that arises from the hybridization between physical and digital space.

First Contact, the exhibition project of AIRLab, the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Laboratory of Politecnico di Milano, within the Social Robotics track coordinated by Prof. Andrea Bonarini, is developed in this context.

Tutte le installazioni fanno parte della ricerca di dottorato di Federico Espositi, supervisionata da Andrea Bonarini, con il contributo di Erica PanelliMaurizio Vetere e Amor Madhkour.

Imagine to meet an alien creature for the first time and needing to communicate with it. This project investigates the challenge of enabling genuine interaction with beings different from humans, both physical robots and abstract virtual entities, through digital filters that modify our perceptions.

We address these themes with four installations:

  • Digital duets: a robotic journey;
  • Digital Duets: Awakening Spaces;
  • Transformations: Morphic Mirror;
  • Transformations: The Shapeshifters.

The exhibition, created according to sustainability principles, is equipped with written narratives, videos, stories, narrating avatars, and is suitable for a varied audience. Free entrance.
