Prof. LATTARI FRANCESCO
Professore a Contratto / Supplente
Francesco Lattari is a PhD student at Politecnico di Milano advised by Prof. Matteo Matteucci. He received a Master’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering in 2017. Starting from his thesis on video object segmentation through deep learning approaches, his research interests are mainly on computer vision and machine learning. Currently, his research focuses on the developing of machine learning approaches in the field of Earth Observation collaborating with the TRE-ALTAMIRA group, world leader in analysing satellite data. In particular, he aims to develop innovative solutions to extract information from Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite data, which provides high-resolution observations of the Earth surface. The projects he is currently involved concern the development of automatic tools to filter out the speckle from SAR images, analyse the evolution of trends in interferometric SAR (InSAR) time series to detect anomalous behaviours in ground and structural deformations, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), and identify water bodies in SAR images. Due to the lack of ground truth for SAR data, his research focuses on the investigation of unsupervised and semi-supervised methods, mostly based on convolutional and recurrent neural networks.
