Sergio Bittanti received the dr. ing. degree in Electronics from the Politecnico di Milano and the dr. degree in Mathematics from the Universita' degli Studi di Milano. Since 1986, he is full Professor of Model Identification and Data Analysis in the Politecnico di Milano. In this University, he acted as supervisor of the PhD Program in Ingegneria Informatica e Automatica (period 1993 - 1998). Professor Bittanti served the International Federation of Automatic Control (IFAC) in various capacities. In particular he was a member of the IFAC Council during the triennium 2002 -2005, the triennium during which it has been decided that the IFAC World Congress of 2011 will be held in Milan, Italy. Moreover, since 2001, he is a Fellow of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). Finally, he is one of the founders of the European Union Control Association (EUCA). He has been and is Associate Editor for various journals; currently he is Editor in Chief of the European Journal of Control. He organized a number of international Conferences and he has been invited to contribute to the Program Committee of more than 80 international scientific meetings (workshop, symposia, congresses) held here and there in various countries of the world. His research focuses on the methods of system identification and control. He also studied a variety of applications to engineering and science, in collaboration with many companies and research institutions, in particular with CNR departments (CNR - Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche - the Italian board for National Research). He has published 4 research books with Springer-Verlag, many textbooks in Italian and about 100 papers in top scientific Journals.
