Nico Catalano completed his Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2020. He then gained a double Master’s degree in Autonomous Systems between Kungliga Tekniska Hogskola (Stokholm, SE) and Eötvös Loránd University (Budapest, HU) in 2021.
Since 2021 is a PhD student in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics at AIRLab under the supervision of professor Matteo Matteucci. His research is focusing on the application of novel technologies in agriculture. The aim of the research is the reduction in the use of dangerous chemicals and a more efficient use of water in phytosanitary treatments in open fields, orchards, and greenhouses.
Such a goal is achievable implementing precision farming by exploiting data acquisition from camera, lidar, radar and GPS in combination with advanced data analysis developing machine learning and deep learning based algorithms.
