This short course covers basic guidelines and principles for designing effective scientific visualizations. We will be discussing topics like form and function, visual channels, use of color, and establishing visual hierarchy.

Antonia Hadjimichael is an interdisciplinary scientist studying complex human-Earth systems, specifically in the domain of water and planning under uncertainty. Her research sheds light on how human-natural systems interact across scales and shape impacts. She holds a BSc in Mathematics from the University of Leicester, UK, a MSc in Environmental Modeling from University College London, UK, and a PhD in Water Science and Technology from the University of Girona, Spain. She serves in the leadership teams for the Society for Decision Making under Deep Uncertainty and the MultiSector Dynamics Community of Practice, as well as in Penn State’s Water Council.
