Pattern matching based on Regular Expressions (REs) is one of the most pervasive and challenging tasks in today's scenarios. Packet filtering, malware analysis, or bioinformatics are just among the most famous applications in which REs represent an effective way to search for specific data characteristics. However, due to the intrinsic high data dependence on these analyses and the increasing requirements in modern processing systems, efficient RE execution is becoming more critical. This talk will provide an overview of the main challenges behind the RE execution, how current solutions handle them, and which are the possible alternative approaches.
The NECSTLab is a DEIB laboratory, with different research lines on advanced topics in computing systems: from architectural characteristics, to hardware-software codesign methodologies, to security and dependability issues of complex system architectures.
Every week, the “NECSTFridayTalk” invites researchers, professionals or entrepreneurs to share their work experiences and projects they are implementing in the “Computing Systems”.
