On October 11th, 2023 at 5 pm Dr. Moritz Kompenhans, manager from the consulting company d-fine, will present on the “Application of quantitative methods and data science to the manufacturing industry” in DEIB Alpha Room (Building 24).
Digitisation poses major challenges for the manufacturing industry. At the same time, however, it reveals opportunities for the more efficient use of human and natural resources in traditional business sectors and the possibility to develop new business sectors and models. Given the professional and technical qualifications of our consultants and our many years of experience, d-fine is able to offer a wide range of solutions in the industry.
In this talk, we present an overview of our experiences and initiatives with d-fine industrial solutions, ranging from state-of-the-art data analytics and modelling approaches to solve complex problems in various industrial sectors, to industrial IoT to provide the technical basis for realization of data-driven added values in complex manufacturing processes.

Biografia
Dr. Moritz Kompenhans studied Computer Science at the Hamburg University of Technology and holds a Master's and a PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University Politécnica de Madrid. Within his doctorate he developed numerical methods in the field of Computational Fluid Dynamics with the aim to improve the accuracy for aerodynamical simulations (e.g. for the airplane design process). The research was conducted in a European research project in which different European organizations (Airbus, Cambridge University, DLR, Imperial College, etc.) compared and benchmarked the performances of their numerical solutions with each other. As a manager within d-fine’s Industrial Solutions unit, Dr. Kompenhans works on analytical topics in the manufacturing industry. This includes subjects like Industry 4.0, Internet of Things, Digital Twins and Computer Vision. In parallel to his consulting work at d-fine, Dr. Kompenhans did an MBA at the Mannheim Business School. His very interdisciplinary background enables him to develop quantitative and data driven business solutions across different industries.
