On March 30th, 2023 at 5.30 pm a new appointment of the "AI Seminar 2023 titeld "Shared autonomy in surgical robotics" will be held by Prof. Elena De Momi, DEIB Associate Professor, in DEIB Conference Room of Building 20 (Leonardo Campus).
Robots play the role of surgical assistants in order to increase the accuracy and the safety of interventions. Minimally invasive tools, including also catheters, also allow reducing the invasiveness of the approach. At the same time, the information coming from endoscopic camera or other sensing tools, can be processed using computer vision and image processing techniques, in order to retrieve context-related information and prevent possible errors. In this way, the system can be also made semi – or completely autonomous, providing a sort of assisted execution, as assisted driving tools in the automotive field have been increasing the safety. The seminar will illustrate the panorama of current applications of AI in endoscopy and robotic surgery, with particular reference to the activities under development at Politecnico di Milano.
