Agnese Chiatti is Assistant Professor at the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics Lab (AIRLab) within the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering (DEIB) at Politecnico di Milano.
She has obtained a PhD in Artificial Intelligence from The Knowledge Media Institute (the Open University, UK). Agnese's PhD research has focused on combining Deep Learning with symbolic inference to enhance the Visual Intelligence of service robots in the context of Health and Safety monitoring applications.
Agnese holds a M.S. in Information Sciences and Technology (IST) from The Pennsylvania State University and a M.S. in Industrial Engineering and Management from Politecnico di Torino. She joined Politecnico di Milano after winning the L'Oréal-UNESCO "For Women in Science" Italy prize in 2022.
Currently she is working with Professors Matteo Matteucci and Viola Schiaffonati on project “ReFiNe – Redefining Field Robot Deployment through Neuro-symbolic Visual Sensemaking”, which received the EU MSCA Seal of Excellence in 2024 and is currently funded by the MUR “Young Researchers 2024” initiative. The project explores how trust and trustworthiness emerge in user interactions with Vision-Language Models, with particular emphasis on the role of graph-based representations in aiding human-agent interaction.
Her research interests lie in Neuro-symbolic AI, combining data-driven and knowledge-driven approaches, with applications in Computer Vision and Robotics.
