Prof. Enrico Tironi received the M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy, in 1972.
Currently, he is Full Professor of Electric Power Systems at the Department of Electrical Engineering of the Politecnico di Milano.
Between 1996 and 2001 he was the Chairman of the University Courses Council in Electrical Engineering at Politecnico di Milano.
Between November 2001 and 2008 he was the Head of the Department of Electrical Engineering. He was Vice Dean of the Third Engineering Faculty of the Politecnico di Milano until 31st December 2009.
He participated as professor and/or Head of Department at courses of Electrical Safety, Management of Electrical Energy, Power Quality, Power Electronics Systems and Lighting Installations.
He is a member of the Committees 210/77A, 11/20, Vice-president of the 64A Committee and President of Technical Commitee 315 (Energy Efficiency) of CEI (Italian Standard Authority).
He is counselor of AEIT (Italian Electrical Association). Also, he is a member of the Board of Thematic Groups on Distribution and Consumer Electrical Facilities of AEIT.
He is author of more than 140 papers in international conferences and journals, facing problems relevant to the electrical systems, the static conversion and regulation of electrical energy, the impact of electronic devices on electric networks (harmonic pollution and corrective actions), the application of electricity to industrial problems, the security of electrical systems.
He was the Chairman sessions of national and international conferences (IEEE) in the area of electrical energy systems. He has been named as expert in the Workgroup, under the auspice of the Ministry of Productive Activities, responsible for the elaboration of a standard regarding microgenerators with a capacity below 1 MW. He is a member of the Committee for the extension of the local building regulation concretized in achievement of energy saving and promoting the renewable energy sources.
Currently he is involved in research projects relevant to distributed generation, supply reliability and innovative technologies for achieving energy saving in power systems and electrical facilities.
In the research areas aforesaid was the Chairman of research grants with public and private entities like ENEL, A2A, RSE, MIUR, CNR, ANSALDO, METROPOLITANA MILANESE SpA, CEA, LOGIC, Regione Lombardia and Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia.
He was in charge, as technical consultant, of many law causes relative to electrical installations.
