Research areas:
  • Telecommunications
Research Line:
  • Signal processing for multimedia and telecommunications
Lorenzo Italiano was born in Figline Valdarno (FI) on June 6th 1997. He received his Bachelor's Degree (2020) in Computer Engineering in Florence, where he maturated an interest in Internet of Things and cybersecurity topics. He proceeded with his studies at Politecnico di Milano in Computer Science Engineering, with a focus on cybersecurity and signal processing. He obtained Master's degree cum Laude in October 2022 with a thesis in the localization field. In his thesis, Lorenzo explored the various localization techniques defined in the 5G standard and proposed two innovative hybrid methods, which combine different types of measurements. Moreover, he implemented a localization algorithm capable of selecting key parameters of the system and analyzed the current 5G base station deployment, showing its poor localization capabilities. The thesis was part of a project, called HYPER-5G, funded by the European Spatial Agency (ESA). In November 2022, he started his PhD career at the Politecnico di Milano.
