Person details

Chiara Piovani was born in Parma, Italy, on the 22nd of March 2000. She earned her B.Sc in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Milano in 2022 and continued at the same university for her M.Sc in Biomedical Engineering, specilizing in Cells, Tissues and Biotechnologies. She graduated in 2025, completing a thesis in collaboration with Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri, where she worked on the development of a millifluidic device for neural cell culture and disease in vitro modelling. Since September 2025, she has been pursuing a PhD in Bioengineering at TechnoBiology Labs of the Department of Chemistry, Materials and Chemical Engineering "Giulio Natta" (CMIC), Politencnico di Milano, under the supervision of Prof. Carmen Giordano. The aim of the project is to deliver an engineered brain-on-a-chip platform based on human cell cultures and organ-on-a-chip devices, useful for predicting the response to a new drug for disabling brain diseases, considering the contribution of gender and individual genetic profile. This work is supported by a Tech Europe Foundation (TEF) fellowship and conducted in close collaboration with Dott. Diego Albani at Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche Mario Negri.
