Linda Greta Dui, research fellow at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering – Politecnico di Milano, received the Doctoral Prize ‘Department of Industrial and Information Engineering - University of Pavia’ awarded by the National Bioengineering Group for her thesis ‘Novel ICT solutions to support the early screening of specific learning disabilities and the characterisation of handwriting evolution’.

In her Ph.D. thesis, Dr. Dui dealt with the early screening of specific learning disorders, in particular dysgraphia, through the development of serious games for tablets capable of anticipating the screening of handwriting problems before it is learned.

Indeed, these games focus on alterations in dysgraphic handwriting, but they investigate them through drawings. For the validation, 250 children were involved for three years, from the last year of kindergarten to the second grade, creating a large database that allowed the prediction of writing difficulties before it is learned through artificial intelligence techniques.
