Marta Lagomarsino, PhD candidate in Bioengineering at the Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano under the supervision of Prof. Elena De Momi in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology, won the 5,000-euro prize “Advancing Technology for Humanity. Most Promising Researcher in Robotics and AI” established by Fondazione Mondo Digitale in collaboration with the Campus Bio-Medico University of Rome (UCBM) on the occasion of the 2023 RomeCup.

The research project presented by Dr. Lagomarsino exploits collaborative robotics – i.e. the human-robot interaction – to improve the quality and safety of work, maximizing productivity without increasing the stress of the human operator.

The project stood out among the 130 applications presented for its innovativeness, scientific solidity and the timeliness with which it tackles one of the most current challenges for work: how to best manage the collaboration between humans and robots in a scenario where the coexistence between natural and artificial is becoming an increasingly relevant reality, not only in the manufacturing field. In particular, the multidisciplinarity of the project was much appreciated, focused as it is on the development of innovative control strategies and artificial intelligence algorithms based on a strong integration of skills in the field of cognitive sciences to identify the most advanced solutions that enhance both technologies and human component in the best possible way in the various working contexts.
