Abstract

The Department of Electronics, Information and Bioengineering - Politecnico di Milano will take part in the 2025 edition of MEETmeTonight, which will be held on 26–27 September 2025 from 10:00 a.m. in the cloister of the University of Milan, on the occasion of the European Researchers’ Night, with two stands and a workshop.

The pavilion dedicated to climate change adaptation will host the stand “Perspectives under discussion: AI challenging ideas on climate change”, where Micol Spitale and Stefano Canali will put widespread certainties about climate change to the test through a compliant artificial intelligence — a sort of “devil’s advocate” robot that today represents an increasingly concrete risk.

The pavilion focused on cancer research will instead host “Organs-on-chips for early diagnosis: an open lab to discover how they work”, Marco Rasponi’s stand showcasing organ-on-chip prototypes used to detect lung cancer relapses at a very early stage, even before clinical symptoms appear. The activity will also feature interactive games and small experiments designed for children.

Finally, on Saturday, September 27, the workshop “Journey into the Future of Ethical Research: How Organs-on-Chip Are Changing Biomedical Research”, led by Paola Occhetta, is scheduled. This is a hands-on workshop designed to explore and discuss the new frontiers of alternative methods to animal testing in biomedical research and the development of drugs and therapies. Participants will have the opportunity to learn how innovative technologies and approaches can replace animal testing, who the key players are in the development and application of these methods, and how they can accelerate research while ensuring both ethical standards and scientific reliability. The workshop lasts 2 hours and will be held in two sessions: the first from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., the second from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Advance booking is required.
