Abstract

The world faces multiple water crises, including overextraction, flooding, ecosystem degradation and inequitable safe water access. Engineers and scientists working to address these challenges often need to consider trade-offs, uncertainties and unintended consequences. Recent scientific advances in water engineering, policy and economics offer opportunities to improve responses to these issues. This talk reviews some of these advances and identifies opportunities to embed them in engineering design and water resources planning.
